Renée Newman-Storen

Renee Newman-StorenRenée has a BA in Communication Studies and English with Honours in Performance Studies from Murdoch University. She is currently a PhD candidate in English and Performance Studies at Murdoch University.

Her theatre credits include Three On One Off (Shanghi Lil Productions) The Big Picture (PTC and Agelink), Charitable Intent and Face to Face (PTC), Hamlet (Hoopla Productions – PTC Umbrella), Dogs Barking (Shakesperience – PTC Umbrella), Loveplay (Red Ryder – PTC Umbrella), A Moment on the Lips (Red Ryder), A Man with Five Children (Black Swan Theatre Co.), Fifteen Minutes of Fame (Capgun Productions, Perth and Melbourne), The Simple Truth (Lyons Productions), Across Hellfire (Luke Milton), The Buzz (Barking Gecko), Denis Cleveland (PIAF, Mikel Rouse USA) The Taming of the Shrew (EHJ Shakespeare in the Park). Her film credits include Frankies Story (FTI/ABC), Roll (Soul Films/Showtime/SBS), Lets Gets Skase (Media World Productions).

Renee was also Assistant Director for the Murdoch University production of The Love of the Nightingale (2005), directed Andrea Gibbs is STARKERS (independent and second season only), The Buzz (Barking Gecko 2007) and Improvilicious (Barking Gecko 2008). Her writing credits include Nova Break and Grace (2000), She Told Me So (2005), Blue Iris and Three Interrupted Lives currently in development. Renee was the official Reserve Candidate for the 2006 Fulbright Postgraduate Award for Visual and Performing Arts, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress 2004 Equity Guild Awards for Dogs Barking, co-winner 2006 Blue Room Award The Judges Prize for She Told Me So, and the recipient of a $5000 Murdoch University scholarship for undertaking her honours year. Renee was also on the Vice Chancellor’s Commendation list for the top 2% of the university in 1998 and 1999 and gave the Valedictorian address at her University graduation.

Renee has presented at conferences in Victoria, New South Wales and Krakow, Poland and teaches in performance history, performance theory and performance creation.She also teaches and works in the field of Creativity in Sustainability. Renee is co-director of theMOXYcollective, a company committed to producing courageous and challenging performance.
